How to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with R25 AOKP Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware

Bored of using the same looking firmware in your Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone? Then we will be checking out on how you can install the new custom ROM firmwares which are not just high on the feature list but also comes with a host of add-on apps. So on the similar lines we will be checking out an all new custom ROM firmware dubbed as “R25 AOKP 4.1.1” custom ROM firmware which is dubbed as XXLPX firmware. You can refer to a detailed list of features which this custom ROM firmware comes along. The best part of this firmware is that it comes with the latest Jellybean 4.1.1 firmware base.

Please note that for applying this update you will have to root the device and with the help of below mentioned links you can root the device. If you feel that you have rooted your device before then you can check the same by downloading the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store. It’s not necessary that you will have to be on the rooted XXLQ5 firmware but you can be on any rooted firmware. We have also mentioned the screen captures on how this firmware looks like.
Caution: This update is strictly for the I9100 Model only and not for the devices which have the model number as I9100G. You can get the model number info from the “Settings > About Phone > Model Number”.
Once the device is rooted, the warranty will get void, to restore the lost warranty, you can revert back to the XXLQ5 firmware which will restore back the warranty.

Download ROM Manager app from the Google PLAY Store, flash the Clock Work Mod recovery in your Galaxy S2. Data in your Galaxy S2 GT I9100 device should be backed up with the help of below steps. As soon as the backup of all the data is created, connect your device and place all the backup files in your computer. Once the backup files are copied to your computer, disconnect the same.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, you will have to enable the USB Debugging Mode. Also not to forget the minimum  battery life should not be less than 40% or else there is a risk of device getting turned off in the middle of firmware update.

Procedure to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with the latest Firmware of R25 AOKP Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware:
  • Download the R25 AOKP Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, you will now need to connect your device to the computer with the help of original USB cable and place the downloaded zip file in your phone.
  • Disconnect the device and turn off the device so that it can be then entered in the recovery mode. Recovery mode in Galaxy S II GT I9100 can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button).
  • While holding these both buttons, turn ON your device. In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition”. Also, select “advanced” and clear the Dalvik cache too if you are on the custom ROM firmware. If the device boots in the normal mode, then you need to retry entering the device in the recovery mode.
  • If the phone gets ON in the normal mode then you will have to again retry entering the device in the recovery mode. Alternatively you can also enter the device in the recovery mode via the Clock Work Mod recovery.
  • Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from internal sd card” and then select the R25 Jellybean 4.1.1 AOKP Firmware Zip Package which you have placed in your device. Once you have selected the file, it will take around 4 -5 minutes for applying the same.
Note: If the device gets into the boot loop sequence or say gets stuck in the welcome screen, just re insert the battery and re follow the above instructions so as to again follow the above mentioned instructions.
