How to Update HTC Incredible 2 with AOKP ICS Build 40 Firmware

HTC Incredible 2 users can now benefit from the latest firmware of AOKP build 40 firmware update. For all those who didn’t know on what exactly is the AOKP build, then AOKP build is basically an Android open KANG Project made firmware which has got really very long list of features and also this one ropes in the latest ICS Android 4.0 firmware release. As of now there is no detail on by when there will be an official update of ICS Android 4.0 release, but as per our sources, there will be no ICS release officially.

Disclaimer: This AOKP release can only applied on the HTC Incredible 2 device and not on other device. This should not be applied to the NETWORK LOCKED version of HTC Incredible 2. Note: if your device is network locked, then you can apply this update but it needs to be boot loader unlocked. Once the boot loader is unlocked, the warranty will get void which can ONLY be reclaimed by applying the factory firmware.

All the data in your HTC Incredible 2 phone should be backed up with the help of below steps, ensure that you don’t use the HTC Sync to back up the data as it may not detect the device in this custom ROM firmware.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log -Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

Ensure that a minimum charge of 50% battery is left on your device or HTC Incredible 2 will be turned off in the middle of firmware update. Enable the USB Debugging mode in your HTC Incredible 2 from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked.

Procedure to Update HTC Incredible 2 with ICS Android 4.0 based AOKP Firmware update:

• Download HTC Incredible 2 AOKP Firmware package & Google Apps from here to your computer and connect your device to the computer and place the same in your device. Ensure that you are not placing the file deep into the sub folders.

• Disconnect the device connected from computer. Download “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store and check whether the device is rooted or not. Also, disable / uninstall all the security suites installed in your device as it may interrupt the process of firmware update.

• Now, turn off the device so that it can be entered in the recovery mode with the boot loader mode.

• The Boot loader mode in HTC Incredible 2 can be entered by pressing Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. If the phone boots in the normal mode then you need to try again to enter into the boot loader mode.

• Select “recovery” so as to enter into the recovery mode. In recovery mode, select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition. Select the HTC Incredible 2 AOKP Firmware package & Google Apps in the same manner. Once done, you need to select the option of “Go Back” and select “reboot system now”.

Note:  Just in case if the device booted up or gets into the boot loop mode then you need to re follow the above mentioned steps with the help of above mentioned instructions. In this case, you need to re insert the battery and then you need to re follow the instructions.
