How To Install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update on Galaxy Nexus

Faster & Smoother 4.0.1 which is dubbed as Jellybean arrives in the world of Android. This Jellybean is the next version of ICS which was dubbed as 4.0 version. Please note that this is not an Official and final release of this Jellybean 4.1 release update and is a beta release. Also, as of now there is no ETA on by when there will be an Official release of Jellybean. As in when it arrives, we will update you with the same. This is not an Official OTA released by Google Inc. and is a beta firmware which is released by Clock Work Mod sources.

Pre Upgrade Essentials:

• First and foremost, this update is out only for the TAKJU model of GSM Galaxy Nexus and not for the devices which are YAKJU GSM models. In short, this update as of now can only be applied if and only if your device is on the latest IMM30D. If your device is on the IMM76I version or on IMM76D etc. then this should not be applied. Though as per different forums and websites have mentioned that this firmware can also be applied on the YAKJU models, we strictly recommend you to follow the instructions mentioned.

• All the data present in your Galaxy Nexus should be backed up so as to ensure that just in case if the data gets deleted or corrupted, the same can be restored. Charge left in your device should be >50% so as to make sure that the device doesn’t get turned Off. From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, you need to enable the USB Debugging Mode.

• Your Galaxy Nexus device should be rooted, so before proceeding ensure that you are on the Rooted firmware. You can check whether your device is rooted or not with an App called “Root Checker” which can be downloaded from the PLAY Store. Its important to root the device and also its equally important that the Clock Work mod recovery is installed in your device along with the unlocked boot loader.

Procedure to Update Galaxy Nexus with JRN84D Android 4.1 Firmware:

• Download the Jellybean 4.1 JRN84D Firmware from here to your computer. Once its downloaded, you now need to connect your device with the computer using the Original USB cable and place the downloaded zip file in your device.

• Disconnect the device and turn Off the device so that it can then be entered in the recovery mode. Turn off the Galaxy Nexus so that it can be entered in the Boot loader mode. Boot loader mode can be entered by pressing the Volume Up + Volume Down and then simultaneously press the Power button till you see the boot loader mode screen. Just in case if the phone boots up in the normal mode, then you need to again try entering the device in the boot loader mode.

• In boot loader, mode, you need to select the option of “recovery mode” with the help of Volume keys and press the power button to confirm the same. In recovery mode, you need to select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card”to select the “JRN84D Jellybean 4.1 Firmware package which you have placed in your device.

• Once the device is applied with this firmware update, the device will land back to the recovery mode screen. Select “Go Back” and “reboot system now” for rebooting the device. once the device is rebooted, you need to go to the path “Settings > About Phone” where it will be shown the current firmware version as Jellybean 4.1 Firmware.

Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.
