How to blacklist numbers on Android 2.3.5

How to blacklist numbers on Android 2.3.5

Way back when the Samsung Galaxy S2 was released I did a guide on stopping number from calling your phone. Back then I was using an early release of Ginger (most probably 2.3.3 or even 2.3.2) and since then things have changed quite a lot with most people running 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 (if they've not already gone to Ice Cream Sandwich). This has meant the original guide (which can be read here) is now quite dated and lacks a specific step that we will cover in this guide.

Instead of changing the original article, which does still help people running early versions of Gingerbread I thought it was worth starting from scratching and making this a cover all for every phone running Android 2.3.5 (and likely 2.3.6). The
actual method isn't much different to the original guide but their are some noticeable differences so lets start with setting screen (in the top left of this guide). From the settings menu you need to select "Call" and then "Call rejection" which is a screen like the screen shot on the left of this paragraph.

From the "Call rejection" screen you need to select "Auto reject mode" this will open

up a menu with 3 options: "Off", "All numbers" and "Only black list". From here you need to select "Only black list". After this the numbers on your black list won't be able to call your phone. What is actually quite annoying is that this step wasn't there in the original version of the software so you didn't need to do that and now you do.

After you select a choice from the "Auto reject mode" menu you will go back to the previous screen with the "Black list" option. Now you can either click on "Black list" and then click "Add" then add the number you wish to blacklist. Though it can be difficult to remember a whole mobile number so what I would advise is following the original black list guide (click here) and adding the numbers to the black list via your contacts screen.

Note-When you set an "Auto reject" mode you will see a new symbol along the notification bar of a red phone, an "A" and a "No" symbol, this is to say "Calls automatically rejected". The symbol can be clearly seen on the large screen shot alongside this paragraph with a white arrow pointing towards it.

This guide should work on any phone running Android version 2.3.5 and this includes the likes of a Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation XE and many many other.

Tips for Android 2.3 users

If you're already using Google+, make sure Sync contacts is turned on, so that recent posts from your friends and other details get integrated with the new People app. To do so, open Google+, touch the Menu button  at the bottom of your phone, and then Settings. Scroll down to make sure Sync contacts is checked.

App upgrades

You may need to upgrade some apps:
  • To use Adobe Flash with Android 4.0, first upgrade it to the latest version.
  • You may need to upgrade some of your other apps before they'll work with Android 4.0.
  • To connect your phone to a Mac via USB, first install the Android File Transfer app on your Mac. To do so, go to www.android.com/filetransfer.

Swipes

Android 4.0 includes many new features, most of which are described in other Help topics. Note especially the use of left-right swipes. For example, you can swipe sideways to:
  • Dismiss notifications.
  • Dismiss recent app thumbnails.
  • Move forward or backward through email messages in your Inbox.
  • Check recent Google+ posts from the People app.

Screenshots

You can now easily capture screenshots directly on your phone: press Power and Volume (Down)simultaneously. The screenshot is saved automatically, and the Screenshot icon appears in your status bar. Touch the notification to view your screenshot in Gallery.

AirDroid Lets Your Desktop Control Your Android Phone Over WiFi Using A Simple, Gorgeous Interface

For those who spend a lot of time looking at a computer, and can't be bothered to look at their phone very often, Sand Studio has introduced AirDroid, an app that allows users to control their Android Phone from a computer via WiFi.

One of the most impressive features is the ability to access SMS messages, manage them, and send messages right from a web browser. Users can also manage contacts, uninstall/backup apps (AirDroid will download your apps as apk files), browse files, access the Android Market, and manage music and ringtones, in addition to the ability to look at phone information from CPU status to battery level and beyond.
Best of all, AirDroid is completely free from the Android Market. With all the powerful features it offers, this app is certainly worth checking out.

Use Android Mobile as Webcam for PC – Wi-Fi & USB Mode

If you are using the Android based mobile phone then you have chosen the right mobile software platform. Android powered by Google is amazing operating system for mobiles which is an open source and best thing comes with the complete rights to install any Android Appon your mobile. Recently browsing through the Android AppMarketplace, I can across IP Webcam app, I read the description and thought of having a try with it, the next it happened to be surprise to me as it can make your mobile phone work as webcam for PC supporting Wi-Fi and USB mode.
IP Webcam for Android
IP Webcam is an Android App which can do wonders for you. It turns your phone into a wireless camera with multiple viewing options. The camera can be viewed in VLC Media player or any web browser on any platform. It’s a personal suggestion that you go with Google Chrome rather than with Internet Explorer.
Now without the need of your front facing camera you can use your primary camera located on the rear side with Skype, Chatroulette and other video chat software’s for video streaming but its limited for Windows only. But usage for the large time will dry up your battery within no time and Android mobile phone consumes more battery makes it more limited.
IP Webcam supports Windows, Mac and Linux. It works like a charm on most of the mobile phone and it gets 4 star rating in official Android Marketplace. The IP Webcam is ideal for short time use like keep an eye on your pets when you are in another room.

Regardless of platform, you can open the video streaming on any PC or laptop by opening the address provided when you install this app provided you connect only within the same network.
Did you know that you can even also expose this webcam on internet. For doing that you need to know the external IP and read your router’s documentation on port forwarding. This would enable to view video streaming from any PC anywhere.

As you know it’s easy to install apps on your Android mobile phone. Go to your mobile phone and tap Market. Search out for IP webcam and click on install, it would be ready for use.

Run Android Ice Cream Sandwich on Nokia N9

Run Android Ice Cream Sandwich on Nokia N9

Have a Nokia N9 but wish you could just get some Android goodness on it? How about loading Ice Cream Sandwich on it and in a separate partition so you don’t mess up your current setup? Thanks to some hard-working developers over at Nitdroid.com , no problem at all.
Here’s how.

I. Before You Begin

1. This shouldn’t effect your current MeeGo setup, but as a precaution please do a backup.

2. This can be a dangerous procedure so please be careful, especially when typing in commands etc.

3. These instructions are for a Windows computer.

II. Flash the Dual-Boot Kernel

1. On your device go to Settings > Security > Device Lock > Autolock and turn it OFF.

2. Download the Flasher program from here  to flash the N9 with (WinFlasher-3.12.1.exe)

3. Install it to your computer and install it to the folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher\ when prompted.

4. Turn off the Nokia N9 and make sure it is NOT plugged in to the computer.

5. Download NaviFirm from here , unzip it, and install it on your computer.

6. Open NaviFirm and then select the Nokia N9 from the far left list, then select 30.2012.7.1 from the second list, then look for your version of the Nokia N9 in the last list (you can better decide by looking under the SIM tray for the 7 character identifier, type in that identifier in the last list to easily find your version) and select it.

7. After it is selected click Unmark all at the top, then look through that list and only check the one that starts with DFL61 AND has the word LEGACY in it.

8. Then click on “Browse” next to “Save to” on the right and choose the folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher\ and also uncheck the “Use productcode as final path”.

9. Then click Download.

10. Next, download the Kernel file from here  and save it inside the folder C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher\

11. Open the command prompt on your computer by opening the start menu and typing cmd in the search box and hitting enter.

12. In the command prompt type the following with hitting enter at the end of each line:

cd C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher

flasher -a DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1_PR_LEGACY_005-OEM1-958_ARM.bin -k zImage –flash-only=kernel -f -R

*in the above command please note that 005 not 001 after LEGACY, and please not the two hyphens before flash (–).

13. After hitting enter at the last line, plug the USB cable into the phone first then plug the other end into the computer and wait a few seconds for it to start flashing the phone.

III. Install Sillyboot

1. Unplug your phone from the computer and turn it on if it isn’t on already.

2. On your device, go to Settings > Security > Developer Mode and turn it ON. This will restart the device and download some apps, say yes to all the prompts.

3. Plug the phone back in to the computer via USB and select USB Storage mode so we can transfer files to it.

4. Download the Sillyboot file from here  and save it to your computer.

5. Copy the Sillyboot file to the Nokia N9 in the MyDocs folder.

6. Unplug the device.

7. Open Terminal on the Nokia N9 and type the following into it with hitting enter at the end of each line (when asked for a password put in rootme):

devel-su

tar xjvf /home/user/MyDocs/sillyboot.tar.bz2 -C /

IV. Install Android Ice Cream Sandwich

1. Download the ICS ROM from here  and save it to your computer.

2. Plug in the Nokia N9 via USB and select USB Storage mode so we can transfer files to it.

3. Copy the file to your Nokia N9 in the MyDocs folder.

4. Unplug the device.

5. Open Terminal on the Nokia N9 and type the following into it with hitting enter at the end of each line (when asked for a password put in rootme):

devel-su

tar xjvf /home/user/MyDocs/nninedroid_ics_alpha1.tar.bz2 -C /home/

6. After that, turn off the Nokia N9 and then turn it back on.

7. When prompted, hit the Volume Up button to boot into the “alternative OS”.

8. Wait a while for it to boot for the first time.

9. Soon as your device boots in to Android, go to Settings > Display > Sleep and change the option to 30 minutes (there is a known issue that sometimes when it goes to sleep it will turn off the phone).

10. To boot back to regular MeeGo, simply turn off the phone and turn it back on.

Thanks to the developers who created all these goodies and who created the original procedures. This was adapted from the following procedures and simplified to help people get through it easily. If this procedure was helpful or you enjoyed it, please head to the source links and donate to the hard working developers who made it all possible! – Source 1 , Source 2 , and Source 3 .

How to make Bootable pen drive / flashdrive for window 7

How to make Bootable pen drive / flash drive for window 7
While out there are many utilities or tools for one to create a bootable USB drive for Windows 7 installation, the DiskPart program comes with Windows XP or above can also be used to get this job done without extra cost.

As you can see from the screenshot (below), I have done the following steps in Windows 7 Command Prompt window to create a bootable USB flash drive for Windows 7 Enterprise installation:

_____________________________________________________________________
You should able to follow these steps, to create a bootable Windows 7 USB flash drive, in Windows XP or higher. In brief, thekey point is using diskpart to set a partition to active (bootable) and then copy the Windows 7 DVD content into this active partition.
_____________________________________________________________________

1) Connect a USB flash drive (min. 4GB for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit).

2) Open Command Prompt window and execute diskpart. In Windows Vista / Windows 7, you need to run Command Prompt with elevated privilege.

3) At DiskPart prompt, type list disk to display a list of mounted disk drive detected by Windows. In the list, you should be able to recognize the USB flash drive connected to Windows, by looking at the Size column. (In my screenshot, this is disk 2).

4) So, execute select disk 2 and then run list partition to display the partition table of the selected disk 2 (i.e. the connected USB flash drive).

5) Execute select partition 1, suppose I would like to choose this partition to work on. Indeed, that is the only partition on the USB flash drive.

6) Now, execute active to set the selected partition as active partition (i.e. bootable partition). By then, the list partitionreport will display an asterisk mark in front of the “active” partition record.

7) Exit from DiskPart program and proceed to use robocopy to duplicate Windows 7 DVD contents to the “active” partition of USB flash drive. For example:
robocopy D:\ E:\ /MIR /V /FP /LOG:C:\Win7.log /TEE

Where D: is the DVD drive containing the Windows 7 DVD; E: is the active partition of USB flash drive; /MIR is to mirror whatever inside the source to the destination; the rest of option switches used are for logging purpose.

Once the robocopy completes successfully, there you will have a bootable USB flash drive for Windows 7 installation :-)
